I'm curious about different Passover traditions around the KD network. Whether it is something new that you and your family/friends have created or a longlived local tradition - please share it here. The more info the better! (this is the online forum related to the "event" I posted).

Hey Tally!

In Romania, we are used to having "collective Seders" ..the sort you might have seen in the past (and today) on kibbutzim or other places.

The different communities bring together some 300 people for each Seder night and its a very nice event.

Pesah sameah to you and all koldorians!

As someone who came to my Judaism and returned through conversion six years ago in the recognition of my family's converso ancestry, my favorite traditions are the re-doing of things we did that we didn't realize were Jewish. One of those was the making of an unleavened flat bread, which upon examining recipes for kosher-for-pesach matzah, I discovered I already knew how to do ! I'd done it with my mother as a child, even though we didn't call it matzah. So this year, stranded in a desert town in west Texas, with no matzah for at least 200 miles in any direction to be found, I made my own matzah, less than 18 minutes per piece, and have decided that this will be a permanent part of the seders I hold from now on.

You'll see it's got a very old look to it.
My next will be to make the capirotada, which is a form of charoset. I have enjoyed learning old sephardic recipes as well.

Hi Tally,
Pesach is my favorite holiday! Every year I try to reinvent and introduce something new to my family traditions. At home we do an "eclectic" mix of customes. One of the ones I have decided to keep, is to decorate Matzot. This was once a very commun thing to do during the Middle Ages, but it was banned from Rabbis due to the fact that it did not reflect the value of the plain, humble Matza that Benei Israel ate at Yetziat Mitzrayim.
I introduced the "Matzah art" to my Middle School students 5 years ago, and then decided to make it as a family activity at home with my own kids in preparations for Passover. These Matzot are exhibit at the Seder. The main goal for this is to help raise questions at the table. Here are some samples of Matzot made by some of my students:
