Who We Are KolDor – which translates both as "Voice of the Generation" and "Every Generation" – aims to strengthen global Jewish Peoplehood by connecting diverse Jewish leaders and activists from around the world in order to enhance their capacity to act for the Jewish People individually and collectively – be it in Tel Aviv, San Francisco or Buenos Aires. KolDor’s work falls into three interconnected areas: network, ideas, and action. These areas support and build upon one another, and will ultimately enable KolDor to strengthen the Jewish People. In its leadership and practice KolDor embodies Jewish Peoplehood, bringing individuals from around the world together to collaborate equally and in the spirit of shared Jewish potential and responsibility. KolDor's work has already begun to impact the agendas of major Jewish institutions as well as the perspectives and actions of hundreds of individuals. An organization that brings people together, KolDor has provided a space for new project ideas that cross borders to take shape. It has enhanced initiatives through global input and strengthened the interconnectedness of hundreds of Jews in nearly 30 countries. Longer-term, KolDor's model will continue to succeed in connecting in substantive ways world Jewry. These relationships will in turn inspire the actions that bridge the gaps and create a shared future. When it was created over four years ago, KolDor brought together a diverse group of emerging Jewishleaders from around the world. It enabled them to connect across communities, get to know each other and create a network for developing ideas and taking action. Together this group forged a vision for building a new global agenda and inspiring action on behalf of the Jewish People. The diverse membership, that shares a passion for the Jewish future, yielded powerful results. From bringing the notion of Peoplehood to the forefront of Jewish conversations to creating a Jewish Social Action Month where thousands across the world commit to doing acts of Tikun Olam during the month of Cheshvan, KolDor has already had tremendous impact. Today, with over 300 participants from nearly 30 countries, primarily between the ages of 25 and 45, KolDor continues to attract unique leaders who havepotential to shape the Jewish world. KolDor is a uniquely flexible, independent and neutral entity that operates with little hierarchy or bureaucracy, which collaborates with grass-roots and established networks and organizations around the world. |
History KolDor was launched in 2003, following an incubation period of more than a year where Israeli, American, Canadian, British and French young professionals were engaged in a consultative process, answering a need to find new ways and meanings to connect as the next generation of global Jewish leadership. It brought together a diverse group of the emerging generation of Jewish leaders from around the world. It enabled them to connect across communities, get to know each other's needs and create a network for developing ideas and taking action. Each one of the first KolDorians felt the need to strengthen the Jewish dimension in their surrounding environment, rather than the religious or national, and KolDor was the answer for this need. Together this group forged a vision for creating a new global Jewish agenda, building global connections and inspiring action on behalf of the Jewish People. The idea of Jewish peoplehood, still a concept not familiar at that time to most of Jewish organizations and the established Jewish world, became the anchor and the axis for KolDor activities. Following its first annual conference in 2004 in the Negev, the KolDor Declaration was presented (see link above), offering new paradigms to the global Jewish discourse. Throughout 2005 and 2006, and after having its second annual conference in north of Israel, KolDor has advocated and promoted global initiatives such as declaring the month of Heshvan as "Jewish Social Action Month" levering its networks and its conceptual richness to promote a new vibrant notion of Jewish Peoplehood. In addition, since inception KolDor has impacted the work of participants’ the Jewish world. Also, in many cases KolDor participants have collaborated on new initiatives and have learned from each other. During 2006 and 2007 KolDor, gaining support from leading Jewish organizations, and answering the need to provide a neutral venue, conceptual and concrete, for exchange of ideas and actions, has became a hub, for various global Jewish networks. In 2007, KolDor hosted its 3rd Global Conference in Israel for 100 participants from nearly 20 countries. |
