Of Mexican/Spanish/Sephardic/Basque & indigenous native background. My decision to return to the jewish faith of ancestors expelled from Spain has led me to wonder about the ways culture is created or erased from our lives.

A professor of intercultural communication, performance ethnography. Fascinated with the intersections of spirituality, culture and identity. Have been at Arizona State University for about 18 years, spent two years on Fulbrights to Mexico.
I am involved with the following Jewish organizations/institutions/projects:
Ruach HaMidbar congregation, Scottsdale Torah institute, classes through Scottsdale Chabad
In the past I have been involved with the following Jewish organizations/institutions/projects:
Hillel on our university campus--expect that I will continue with that

I am writing about this...it is one of the largest puzzles in my existence as a descendant of conversos who chose to return.

Free will, tzedakah, avoiding lashon harah, retaining eretz Israel without becoming a nation of hate...
